A Dublin Scratch Card player has described the unforgettable moment she realised she had scooped the €20,000 top prize on a Hot 7s game after a spur-of-the-moment stop at Centra, 5 Gregg Court, Parnell Street, Dublin 1.
Luciana Silva do Nascimento said she only popped into the shop to pick up a Daily Million ticket when she decided to add the €2 Scratch Card to her purchase. Speaking in the Winner’s Room as she collected her prize, Luciana recalled, “I had just left the store and decided to scratch it. I thought, ‘OMG, I think I’ve won!’ I ran straight back into the shop to check. I was so excited, I could’ve danced on the street!”
After carefully tucking the signed Scratch Card away in an envelope and hiding it in a drawer, she said her thoughts began to run wild. “I haven’t been sleeping with the excitement and nerves, so I’m looking forward to resting once the Scratch Card is gone and the cheque is in the bank!”
When it came to seeing her prize cheque for the first time, Luciana summed up the moment perfectly, “That’s the best cheque I’ve ever seen!”
She now plans to save the prize money, with hopes of putting it towards buying a home in the future.
With Father’s Day marked in the diary for this Sunday, the National Lottery is reminding players planning to give a National Lottery Scratch Card as a gift to always support our ‘Gift Responsibly’ campaign.
National Lottery spokesperson Darragh O’Dwyer had the following advice,
“Could Dad be unwrapping a National Lottery Scratch Card this Father’s Day? It’s a fun way to add a little extra excitement to the day, and who knows, it could even make it one to remember. As always, we’re encouraging players to support our Gift Responsibly campaign and to remember that National Lottery products are strictly for those aged 18 and over. Whether it’s Father’s Day or any other occasion, if you’re gifting a Scratch Card, please gift responsibly.”
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total, €7 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 39 years ago. In 2024 alone, €239.3 Million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
