The new year has brought incredible fortune to several Scratch Card players in Ireland, with winners from Dublin, Donegal, Kildare, Mayo and Wexford, all celebrating their unexpected windfalls.
Shop owner, James Kennedy of Spar, located on 199 Decies Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, who sold the top-prize All Cash Spectacular Scratch Card, was delighted to hear the news about one of his customers.
"It's absolutely fantastic to hear that one of our customers has won the top prize of €200,000 on the All Cash Spectacular Scratch Card. We are thrilled for him and his family, especially with the surprise of discovering the prize was ten times larger than he initially thought! It's a wonderful way to start the new year, and we hope this win brings them great joy and happiness"
The winner of the €200,000 top prize collected his cheque from the National Lottery’s exclusive winners' room last week. Initially, the Dublin man thought he had won €20,000, but his son corrected him, revealing the larger prize. What an incredible surprise!
A player from Kildare struck gold on Christmas Eve, winning a thrilling €100,000 on a Money Multiplier Scratch Card! He picked up his ticket from SuperValu in Naas, Co. Kildare – a store he wouldn’t typically shop in until he was gifted a voucher when he picked up his new car.
“It was exactly 4.30pm on Christmas Eve, and I had just got home from the shops, getting ready to go socialise with my friends. I carefully scratched the card and saw the €100,000 win – I fell to the floor crying. I just couldn’t believe it. I was home alone at the time, so I picked up the phone to share the news, and no one would believe me!”
The Kildare man recounted, “I didn’t trust having the Scratch Card in the house, so I drove over to my friends. We got tinfoil and wrapped the card in it, put it in a lunchbox, and hid it in the attic. In hindsight, it was a great hiding spot until I rang the Lottery in the New Year to claim my prize. Martin from the Prize Claims team asked me for a code number from the winning ticket, and it was still sitting in my friend's house in his attic.”
The drama didn’t end there. The prize winner shared the nail-biting experience of retrieving the ticket from his friend's attic, which almost resulted in an injury. On his second attempt to claim the €100,000, he finally had the winning ticket in hand.
“I rang Martin, with the card in my hand, calling out the validation code. He left it too long for my liking to confirm the win, because the couple of seconds of silence felt like half an hour. I started to doubt the win, I was starting to break a sweat, until he congratulated me, and the celebrations kicked off again!”
The Kildare player plans to look after his family and clear off his new car loan with his incredible prize.
Meanwhile, an ecstatic family syndicate of five from Mayo made their way to Lottery HQ to claim an incredible €100,000 prize. Their journey to fortune began with a Money Multiplier Scratch Card, gifted during a wedding anniversary celebration. The winning ticket was purchased at Kavanagh’s SuperValu in Castlebar, Co Mayo. While they have no immediate plans for their windfall, the family dreams of planning an unforgettable holiday together in the near future.
A Donegal man also struck gold with a €50,000 win on an All Cash Extravaganza Scratch Card he bought in Convoy's Post Office, Lifford, Co. Donegal. In a twist of fate, his car broke down on the way home from the store, but his spirits soared when he realised his new fortunes would cover the cost of a new one. Talk about perfect timing!
Finally, another Wexford woman had her own exciting moment, claiming €30,000 on an All Cash Tripler Scratch Card purchased from Spar, Blackwater, Co. Wexford. It was a close call for this winner as her husband almost ripped up the card thinking it was a non-winner – a lesson for all our Scratch Card players to pay close attention to the game!
