A routine stop at the Obama Plaza has turned into an unforgettable €8,221,849 million payday for a Tipperary syndicate, who are still coming to terms with their Lotto jackpot win. What began with a Quick Pick ticket purchase while grabbing food has become a moment the syndicate will never forget. The Lotto Jackpot worth €8,221,849 was won on the 25th July, with the winning ticket purchased at Obama Plaza in Moneygall, Co. Offaly.
“This win is beyond anything we could ever have imagined. We were passing by the Obama Plaza, stopped for some food and picked up the ticket without thinking much about it. Later, when I scanned it on the app, a message popped up saying that 'You’ve won big!”. I genuinely never expected to scan a ticket worth €8.2 million!”
“The shock was unbelievable. I had to knock on the bathroom door and call my partner out of the shower to show them what I was seeing. There were tears in my eyes as it started to sink in. We found out on All-Ireland final day, so we joked that Mayo weren't the only ones getting a shock that day! Since then, we've kept the ticket as close as possible to us. It was tucked safely away and even came on holiday because there was no way we were leaving it behind.”
The syndicate say life will continue much as normal, but the win provides the freedom to create memories that have been on the top of their bucket list. Alongside plans for travel, there are also ambitions closer to home too.
“This win has opened up a world of possibilities. When we look at a map, we can start planning all the places we've always dreamed about visiting. South America, seeing the Northern Lights and taking our first-ever cruise are all on the bucket list. The ticket that came on holiday with us has become a passport for more adventures! Closer to home, we'd love to take on a few projects around the house and build a greenhouse where we can spend more time enjoying our passion for gardening!”
A Kilkenny Lotto syndicate is also celebrating after collecting their prize for €40,215, after winning the Match 5 plus Bonus prize in the first Lotto draw of the newly introduced game format that features 45 Lotto balls on Saturday, 5th September. The Kilkenny winner scooped their €40,215 amount after purchasing their ticket at M&A Supermarkets on the Main Street in Mooncoin.
The winner checked their ticket online and couldn't believe what they were seeing, with the prized ticket quickly becoming the most important item in the house. "It stayed safely in my bag and we kept asking each other, 'Do you have the ticket?'"
To celebrate their win, the syndicate said they are looking forward to lunch at one of Dublin’s five-star restaurants and taking time to enjoy the moment. "Walking into the National Lottery winners' room, we were saying, 'Wow, we've got to enjoy this”, they said. A trip to Anfield to watch Liverpool is also firmly on the wish list as they look forward to making some special memories with their prize.
Meanwhile, tonight’s Lotto jackpot is an estimated €3 million. Players dreaming of winning big are reminded that tickets can be purchased nationwide in-store, through the National Lottery app or online at www.lottery.ie ahead of the 7.45pm cut-off time for sales this evening.
