Gift Responsibly this Christmas

Remember, Lottery products are for 18 years & over.

Gift Responsibly!

As part of our Gift Responsibly Campaign, the National Lottery is reminding our players about the risks of underage lottery play and excessive play.

Lottery tickets are not child’s play. Early gambling experiences, including lottery play may be a risk factor for later problem gambling. The Gift Responsibly Campaign provides a reminder to parents and other adults that lottery tickets and scratch cards are not appropriate gifts for children under the age of 18.

The Gift Responsibly Campaign is spearheaded by the American National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours at McGill University in Canada. This is a global campaign supported by the World Lotteries Association and European Lotteries of which the National Lottery is a member.

The Gift Responsibly Campaign continues to be endorsed and receives support from the World Lottery Association, European Lotteries and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries. It is a valuable initiative which demonstrates PLI’s strong commitment to responsible play through educating players and potential players to the risk of underage play and the importance of gifting responsibly.

The National Lottery has incorporated our Gift Responsibly logo across our gift themed products. Players will see this campaign featuring on our in-store point of sale material, and on social media, where the National Lottery will be reminding our players to 'Gift Responsibly'.

We ask all our players and the wider public to support this campaign and please remember when you are purchasing any National Lottery product as a gift, it is always important to ‘Gift Responsibly’.

The National Lottery has incorporated a number of measures as part of their campaign:

  • Placing the Gift Responsibly logo on relevant collateral including Digital instore screens;
  • A press release promoting the Gift Responsibly Campaign;
  • A designated educational Gift Responsibly webpage and a link to the Gift Responsibly webpage anywhere online where a Gift Responsibly logo is present, on a year-round basis; and
  • Social Media Messages promoting gifting responsibly.
