One lucky Dublin man became a millionaire over the bank holiday weekend after he made the nominal shop purchase of a Daily Million lottery ticket to acquire change for a parking meter!
The delighted family man who claimed his €1 million prize from National Lottery headquarters this morning (Tuesday) won the Daily Million top prize in Sunday’s 9pm (30 April) draw. The winning Quick-Pick ticket was sold on Sunday at the busy Spar store on Liffey Street in Dublin 1, a shop that is no stranger to big National Lottery Jackpot wins having sold a mega €3.6 million ticket in December 2004!
Daily Million draws take place at both 2pm and 9pm, seven days a week, for just €1 per play. The Daily Million jackpot prize of €1 million was last won on 09 March by a Co. Mayo couple who purchased their ticket in Belmullet, Co. Mayo.
The delighted winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, recalled how a shopping trip to Dublin City with his wife resulted in his €1 million windfall:
‘My wife and I travelled into town on Sunday morning to do some shopping and I popped into the nearby Spar shop as I needed to get some change to pay for parking. It’s incredible to think that what I thought was an insignificant purchase could change my family’s lives overnight,’ he said.
‘On Monday, I saw that there had been a winner of the draw in Dublin so I quickly scanned the ticket on the National Lottery phone App. We were absolutely stunned. We had a great weekend of celebrations but we will go back to work now and take some time out to let the win sink in properly,’ he said.
‘It’s a lovely prize to win. As a family, we all agreed that our first purchase would be a new car as the one we have at the moment is quite old. Also, one or two of our family members are saving to buy houses so we would obviously like to help them.’ he added.
