Lovely Hurling! Wexford man starts summer with €269,554 EuroMillions win

It was a day of life-changing consequences at National Lottery offices today as one lucky Wexford man claimed a massive prize of €269,554 which he won on the EuroMillions draw on Friday 19th May.

The Wexford man won the EuroMillions Match 5 + Lucky Star prize and was just one number away from hitting the mammoth €118 million jackpot. The lucky winning Quick Pick ticket was sold on the day of the draw at the Gwalia Store on Main Street in Gorey, Co. Wexford.

Despite securing a ‘life-changing’ EuroMillions win of over a quarter of a million, all the passionate Wexford man really wants is to see his beloved ‘Yelowbellies’ beat Kilkenny in the All Ireland hurling final in Croke Park next September, “I cannot describe the relief that this win brings to my family. This win is going to make a huge difference to so many people. It’s going to be a great adventure as we change our lives for the better.”

“The only thing I want for now is to see Wexford getting one over on Kilkenny in Croke Park in September! I’ll be following the team over the summer so I’ll have to treat myself to some posh seats in Croke Park when we get there,” he laughed.

The young man who was joined by his supportive mother in the National Lottery winners’ room recalled how they only found out about the massive local win after a relative living abroad alerted them.

“Good news certainly travels fast to every corner of the world! We got a phone call on Sunday evening from a family member who heard about the EuroMillions win in Gorey. My mother hadn’t actually bought a ticket for the draw so she had no interest in the news. As soon as I heard, I ran out to my car and there it was sitting on my dashboard, the winning ticket worth almost a quarter of a million euro.”

“We are still in a state of shock and disbelief, we have been checking and rechecking the ticket every few hours since Sunday. The past few days has given us the opportunity to take some time out and really consider the impact of the win on the whole family. I plan to move out of the family home and buy a place of my own which will set me up for the future, completely mortgage free, he said.

Other winners through the door of National Lottery offices included a delighted Dublin couple who claimed the top prize of €25,000 on the new €3 Holiday Cash scratch card. The lucky pair bought their ticket at Mannion’s Newsagent in Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

There was also another Dublin scratch card winner who scooped a whopping €20,000 on the €20 All Cash Extravaganza game. The winning ticket was sold at Dunnes Stores in North Earl Street in Dublin City.
