A lucky Limerick Lotto player has promised to take early retirement and buy a property in the sun after picking up a winning Lotto jackpot cheque worth €5.8 million. The tidy sum was won on Saturday’s the 25th of Novembers Lotto draw.
The winner - who was in great spirits today sitting in the National Lottery winner’s room - revealed a short-term plan to clear the mortgage and get a nice sun holiday after the Christmas celebrations in Barbados.
The winner revealed that early retirement was definitely on the cards, saying: “Retirement is the last thing on my mind at the moment but with this magnificent windfall, I am definitely going to take it a few years early. I am delighted, I didn’t even check my ticket initially. In fact, it went out of my head completely until I was listening to Limerick Live 95FM the next day and they were talking about the Limerick Lotto win. I went out and checked the ticket using the Lottery App and low and behold it was me”!
The winner insisted that the money will not change them or their family and, until retirement, they will continue to work for the foreseeable future.
“The feeling is still indescribable when I realised I had won the jackpot. It was kind of like an out-of-body experience! It’s fantastic – and to happen just before Christmas. The whole family will be getting slightly more extravagant Christmas presents than originally planned”, the winner continued.
But before our winner can think of sun, sea and sand, there is one more important job that they can’t escape from, despite being almost €6 million richer. “I still have to cook Christmas dinner for the entire family but this year my win will make it a lot more pleasant!” the lucky Lotto player said.
The winning ticket was bought at the General Post Office (GPO) on Cecil Street in Limerick City and this Lotto jackpot win is the 11th of 2017, with all winners sharing more than €65 million in Lotto jackpot prizes alone.
Approximately 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games go back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts and heritage. In total, more than €5 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 30 years ago.
