Just the tonic! Sligo man buys under the weather girlfriend €50,000 scratch card

When an unwell Sligo woman sent her boyfriend to the local shop to pick up supplies, she had no idea that he would cure her ails with a winning National Lottery scratch card worth an incredible €50,000.

David O’Reilly (26) and Saoirse Murray (24), from Sligo Town, were in celebratory form when they landed at National Lottery headquarters to pick up the top prize of €50,000 on the €5 All Cash Platinum scratch card.

The couple were one of two €50,000 scratch card winners who came through the doors of the National Lottery today.

Personal trainer, David, who may currently be the best boyfriend in Ireland said: “She wasn’t feeling well at all yesterday so I was sent to the shop to buy her some treats to help make her better. I just thought it might be a little bit of fun for her – I never would have imagined that she would win 50 grand!”

The lucky Sligo man purchased his winning scratch card at the Centra Store on Castle Street in Sligo Town. The All Cash Platinum scratch card, which costs €5, still has four top prizes of €50,000 remaining.

Childcare professional, Saoirse, who had miraculously recovered just in time to collect her winnings confirmed that she would be splitting the prize-money with her lucky boyfriend: “We wouldn’t usually buy scratch cards so were astounded when the €50,000 came up on it. We thought we must have made a mistake because there’s no way we would be this lucky. Of course we’re going to split the money! It was a thoughtful gift and it will give us both the opportunity to make some nice changes in our lives.”

Meanwhile on Wednesday, another lucky punter from Co. Cork also scooped a €50,000 scratch card win. The winning Bingo Times 10 scratch card, priced at €5 was sold at Foley’s Food Store in Mallow, Co. Cork.
