It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for self –employed electrician, Declan Ward (32) from the town of Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan who recently returned from a holiday of a lifetime, where he popped the question to his childhood sweetheart, then bought a Lotto ticket and ended up scooping a tidy €170,867 Lott win.

Declan matched 5 numbers plus the bonus for the lucky Lotto win on Saturday the 23rd of September's Lotto draw.

Relaxing along with fiancee Nicola McEneaney in the Winner’s Room at National Lottery HQ in Dublin the couple were also joined by Declan's mother, father, sister, brother-in-law and niece who were helping the happy couple celebrate.

The pair, who have been together for 13 years, are only recently back from a holiday of a lifetime in Santa Monica, California where Declan got down on one knee and asked Nicola to marry him. When she said yes, they boarded a plane to Las Vegas and took in the spectacle that was Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather boxing match – a real trip of a lifetime!

Speaking on his win Declan said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. The win could not have come at a better time as our house has just been built and we have the funds to furnish it. When asked what else he plans for his lucky lotto win he said: “I haven’t really thought much further than the house. I’m sure we will put a bit aside for the wedding and we hope to get another holiday in before the end of the year”. However, the couple would not be moved when quizzed about setting a date for their nuptials!
