Wexford gran celebrates €500,000 euro Scratch Card win

A Wexford grandmother hooked a massive €500,000 Scratch Card win while her husband popped into the vet to get fish food for the family pet.

The delighted winner bought a €20 All Cash Extravaganza Scratch Card in SuperValu in Wellingtonbridge, Co. Wexford, last Saturday morning, and planned to wait until she got home to see if she had won a prize.

But while her husband was in the vets she decided to scratch the card as she waited in the car:

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when three €500,000 symbols came up. I thought I was seeing things! When my husband came back with the fish food he thought I was sick. I was shaking and could hardly talk.”

The delighted gran came to National Lottery headquarters with her family today to collect her winnings. She has generously decided to split her winnings with her husband and their two adult children, all who live in Bannow, Co. Wexford. The family travelled by mini-bus to National Lottery HQ with their partners – taking along a punnet of famous Wexford strawberries to enjoy with their champagne!

The thrilled gran said:

“I have been playing Scratch Cards and Telly Bingo for years and the most I have won to date is €500. I always believed I would win big someday. I am delighted to be able to share some of my good fortune with my children. This will make life a bit more comfortable for us all.”

Neither she nor her husband has ever taken a foreign holiday. Now they are now considering doing a cruise – but on one condition: “I love Bingo and play a few times a week. So if we find a cruise ship with Bingo onboard we will go!”

Wexford beating Kilkenny in the Leinster Hurling Championship Semi-Final was the final strawberry on the cake, rounding off a Saturday to remember.
