Online lotto win of €45,000 for Meath couple

A delighted Co. Meath couple who scooped more than €45,00O playing lotto online can now realise their dream to buy their own home.

“I was speechless when my numbers came up. My first thoughts were this is enough to put a deposit on a house. For us this is life changing.”

Karl and Andrea Scarff, from Duleek in Co. Meath, are living in rented accommodation and have been struggling to save for a deposit on a house.

The happy couple, parents of seven-year-old Jack and seven-month-old James, collected their winning cheque for €45,742 for a Match 5 plus Bonus Number win in National Lottery headquarters today.

“We are going straight to meet a friend who is a mortgage broker to apply for a home loan. This win means so much to us. We have enough money for a deposit for a three bedroom house. We never thought we would see the day.” said Karl, who works as an electrician with Mercury Engineering in Dublin.

Andrea said seven-year-old Jack is constantly asking when the family will have their own house. “We haven’t told him the news yet. He is in school today and it is business as normal. But he will be thrilled.”

Karl has been playing lotto on-line for two years using the same numbers based on family birthdays through the National Lottery App. “It is so convenient. I play through the App every Thursday for Saturday and Wednesday’s Lotto, using the same numbers all the time.”

Andrea was out at a friend’s 40th birthday on Saturday night while Karl was at home babysitting when he saw the Lotto draw live on RTE One TV. “I was speechless when my numbers came up. My first thoughts were this is enough to put a deposit on a house. For us this is life changing.”

The biggest National Lottery win online to date is €5,513,556, while the biggest Euromillions win online is €632,452. There has also been a €500,000 Daily Million Plus Jackpot online win.

This Wednesday night’s Lotto Jackpot will be over €10 million. The Jackpot has been rolling over for since March 1st and will be second highest jackpot of the year if won, €12.8m won in Dublin on March 1st.
