Over 800 €1 million+ prizes paid by National Lottery in Ireland

New data reveals the number of €1 million or greater prize pay-outs and the top prize hotspots in Ireland over the last 27 years. The statistics, launched in celebration of this year’s Christmas Millionaire Raffle taking place on New Year’s Eve, show that a total of 810* prizes have been paid out to the value of between €1 million and €115 million through draw-based games Lotto, EuroMillions and Daily Million as well as the Millionaire Raffle draws.

At the top of the list of prize hotspots in Ireland is Dublin where the National Lottery has made 296 of all €1 million or greater prize payments, with an average winning of €3,150,000 per payment. This is followed by the South (Cork, Kerry and Tipperary) which is home to 127 of these payments, averaging €2,800,000 each. 

The highest average €1 million or greater prize pay-out is €5,000,000 in the Mid-West region (Clare, Limerick) following Dolores McNamara’s gigantic €115,000,000 EuroMillions win back in 2005 (sold in Garryowen, Limerick). While the Mid-West has the highest average €1 million or greater prize pay-out, it is home to 45 of the total number of these payments made.

Christmas Millionaire Raffle tickets for the 2016 draw are limited and are on-sale now from National Lottery agents nationwide and online. Tickets are on sale until 10pm on New Year’s Eve, Saturday 31 December 2016, or until all tickets are sold out. 

The draw takes place on New Year’s Eve in National Lottery offices in Dublin, and the top prize winner will become the National Lottery’s first millionaire of 2017. You could give someone - or yourself - the gift of a million euro this Christmas! Each ticket is presented in a gifting wallet and envelope making it the perfect Christmas gift. 

* The data refers to all prizes paid out by National Lottery, to both individual and syndicate wins, that are greater than or equal to €1,000,000 for Lotto, EuroMillions, Daily Million, Monday Million (replaced by Daily Million) and Millionaire Raffle. The minimum pay-out from the 810 is €1,000,000 and the largest is €115,000,000 historically. All figures are based on the National Lottery Press Office draw and claims data and relate to years 1989 – 2016.
