€6.6 Million Online Lotto Win Claimed

Lotto Online Win

A Munster man remembered to top up his National Lottery online account just 30 minutes before he scooped a life-changing €6.6 million on last Saturday’s draw (8th December 2018).

The man, who claimed the life-changing prize as part of a small family syndicate, was still pinching himself in disbelief when he called to the National Lottery Winner’s Room today to claim his massive prize.

This was the sixth Lotto jackpot online win since the National Lottery launched online play in 2009 bringing the total won on online jackpots to €27,252,015. And so far this year, online National Lottery players have won almost €29 million in prizes.

In the Winners Room today the lucky winner said: “I only recently began playing Lotto online as I was always forgetting to get my ticket in the shops. I opened the National Lottery App just half an hour before Saturday’s Lotto Draw and saw that there was only €3 in my account so I topped up, selected a Quick Pick and thought nothing else of it”.

The winner said he read on Sunday that an online player had won the Lotto but he didn’t think to check his numbers on the app until later on Sunday evening.

He continued: “You never actually think it’s going to be you. I’m staring at this cheque with all these zeroes on it and I still cannot believe it. I checked my numbers when I saw the email come through and even at that stage I thought it would only be a couple of euros! We are going to take our time over the next few weeks and try to process this in our own heads. We are going to have a great Christmas, as normal with our family and then we’ll clear the mortgage and bills in the New Year. After that, we’ll just see how we go!”

This is the eleventh Lotto jackpot to be won so far in 2018 and the sixth to be won by an online player, since the National Lottery launched its play online platform in 2009.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games go back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts and heritage. In total more than €5.3 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 31 years ago. In 2017 alone, the National Lottery raised over €226 million for such good causes.
