It may have been a four-day week for many people across the country but that did not stop the celebrations in National Lottery Headquarters. Across the week, players travelled from all over Ireland to collect prizes won across EuroMillions, Lotto and Telly Bingo.
A Cork man had the longest Easter Bank Holiday weekend of all after winning the special EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle last Friday 3rd April. The Rebel County player scooped €1,005,000 and spent the weekend waiting for Lottery Headquarters to reopen so that he could make arrangements to collect his prize after purchasing his winning ticket at Marina XL Filling Station on Monahan Road in Cork City.
“On Saturday when the news broke about the win, I was 99.9% sure that I had the winning ticket, but I wanted to confirm it with the Claims team to be fully certain. Tuesday felt like a lifetime away, but I was delighted to finally speak to them and confirm I had won. I told my wife and she couldn’t believe it. I have played a few tricks on her in the past so it’s understandable!”
The Cork winner is going to take his time and let the good news sink in before making any plans.
“Looking after family is most important but apart from that, I am going to continue with life as normal and take some time to think and plan. We already have a holiday planned but this may be the perfect excuse to upgrade ourselves!”
A Mayo Syndicate were delighted to make the trip to Dublin to collect their €375,000 prize which they won on Saturday 28th March in the Six Number game of Lotto 54321 in the Lotto Plus 2 draw. Their winning ticket was purchased at Centra, Station Road, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
“To be honest, I kept extremely calm when I checked the ticket. The first thing I did was put the ticket in an envelope and hid it immediately after finding out the results that Saturday night. The rest of the syndicate weren’t as calm though and were completely shocked when I announced the news – they didn’t know what to expect!”
A Dublin woman was over the moon to mark off her numbers in last Friday’s Telly Bingo draw after she won the Snowball prize worth €60,000. She purchased her winning ticket at Dunnes Stores, Kilnamanagh Shopping Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24 for the 3rd April draw.
“I was sitting watching the draw live last Friday and I was down to my last two numbers which is the closest I have ever been to winning the Snowball. My daughter was standing in front of the television at one point, so I was telling her to move quickly. I couldn’t believe it when I saw my numbers pop up on screen, so I rewatched the show to be sure!”
The winner admitted that the celebrations were underway immediately.
“With it being a Bank Holiday weekend, we already had plans so we got to celebrating right away. I am looking forward to planning a family holiday, new furniture for the house and my husband is already measuring the garden for a shed.”
Last Saturday’s Lotto draw saw a Limerick man match five numbers and the bonus to win €51,393 after purchasing his winning ticket at Centra Monaleen, Monaleen Stores in Castletroy, Co. Limerick.
“I was heading into town for a takeaway when I decided to pick up a ticket. It was a bit of a dreary day with the storm so I wasn’t thinking too much of it. We checked the ticket after the draw and thought we won the Match 5 prize which we were thrilled with. We realised that we had the bonus then and our jaws dropped, we were delighted and even started to doubt ourselves! Until we saw it in the local paper, we didn’t fully believe it. I am so ready to hand over the ticket now as I have been carrying it in my wallet everywhere since the win. I put it on the bed at one point and panic set in thinking about if the dog got hold of it! We will celebrate with family soon and then start making our plans – a holiday is top of the list and my daughter would love a car.”
Meanwhile, a EuroDreams player in Portugal is certain to be celebrating today after scooping the Tier 1 prize of €30,000 per month for 30 years in last night’s (Thursday 9th April) draw. The EuroDreams top prize is typically worth €20,000 per month for 30 years but the top prize has been boosted since Thursday 2nd October. As the special prize has been won, the top prize will now revert back to €20,000 per month for 30 years.
