Cork Supermarket Syndicate Scoop €117,790 Lotto Win!

Cork Supermarket Syndicate Lotto Win

There were wild celebrations in the National Lottery winners’ room on Tuesday as a syndicate of 15 staff members from Herlihy’s Centra Store in Fermoy picked up a Lotto cheque worth €117,970 after they won the Lotto Match 5 + Bonus prize on Wednesday 25th July.

The aptly named ‘Lucky Thursday Syndicate’ only found out about their incredible win while in work on the Thursday morning after their manager informed them that the winning ticket had been sold in the store.

Leader of the elated syndicate, Mary O’Connor told how news of the win spread through the town like wildfire but her first instinct was to hope that one of their loyal local customers had scooped the prize, “We got into work on the Thursday morning and the store manager was excitedly telling everybody that we had sold the winning ticket. At this stage we still hadn’t checked our own ticket but we were absolutely thrilled to think that it could have been some of our favourite customers who had won the prize.”

The syndicate leader also explained how she kept the news of the win from her own colleagues until she had the win confirmed by Lottery HQ:

“When I finally got around to scanning our ticket later that morning, a message came up to tell me that I had to contact the National Lottery. I was in an absolute state of shock and I couldn’t tell the rest of the syndicate until I was certain it was a winner! The last few days have just been amazing, we have received incredible goodwill from our customers and colleagues and we’re looking forward to get home to share the news about our visit to the National Lottery Winners’ Room,” she said.

The 15 members of the ‘Lucky Thursday Syndicate’ who will each take home almost €8,000 each have planned to spend their winnings on car upgrades, home improvements and some holidays.
