Murphy’s Newsagents, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo Sold Third Lotto Jackpot Winning Ticket

The National Lottery has confirmed that the winning ticketholder of a Lotto jackpot worth €2,824,437, sold last week in Co. Mayo, has made contact.

The winning ticket was bought in Murphy’s Newsagents on the Main Street in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we have been contacted by the lucky winning ticketholder of last week’s Lotto jackpot worth €2.8 million. We are really excited to have spoken to the seventh Lotto jackpot winner of the year and now arrangements are being made for this claim to be made”.

This is the third Lotto jackpot winning ticket sold at the store, owned by Martin Murphy, which has served customers in Ballinrobe for more than 116 years. The first winner sold by Murphy’s was in 1989 when a jackpot of £175,493 Irish Punts was won and then again in 2015. On that occasion, Martin hit the headlines when he sold a winning ticket worth over €6.3 million to his brother-in-law Ger Murphy.

Last week, Martin Murphy said, “You wouldn’t believe the excitement which is coursing through Ballinrobe town right now. We are all ecstatically excited and we are thrilled that somebody in our community is now coming to terms with being over €2.8 million richer right now. It really is such a satisfying feeling knowing that we sold them the winning ticket.”

This is the 59th Lotto jackpot to be won in Co. Mayo since the inception of the Lotto game in 1988. These 59 jackpots total a gargantuan €106,548,931.

In 2020, almost €73 million has been won in prizes in the Lotto game across Ireland, which includes 12 new millionaires which have been created in the Lotto and Lotto Plus games.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total more than €5.6 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 32 years ago. In 2019 alone, €250 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
