A Mayo Winning Streak - Castlebar Hairdresser Styles His Way to Claiming €255K EuroMillions Win
Waterford EuroMillions Player Scoops €81,204
30/08/2025
Following the recent Lotto Jackpot online win in Mayo, celebrations continue as Castlebar hairdresser Patrick Monahan officially claimed his cheque for €255,000 from the EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle promotion held on Friday, 30th May. A well-known figure in the community with over 40 years behind the salon chair, it’s not his styling skills making headlines, but a winning ticket.
Patrick’s winning ticket was bought on a whim at Duffy’s Costcutter on Turlough Road in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, just minutes before the cut-off for the EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle promotion on Friday, 30th May.
Patrick bought two Quick Pick tickets, one for himself and one for a close friend waiting in the car. In playful fate, he held out both tickets and asked, “Left hand or right?” His friend chose the right. Patrick ended up with the left-hand ticket… and the winning one.
“I’m absolutely thrilled” Patrick said, still taking in the news. “It’s an incredible amount of money, especially since I thought I’d won €5,000, not an extra €250,000!”
Patrick plans to celebrate with the very friend who was with him that day. “We’ve shared plenty of laughs over the years, and this is definitely one we’ll never forget. I couldn’t celebrate without him!”
While Mayo celebrates, Waterford has reason to cheer too, as a local player has woken up €81,204 richer after matching five numbers in last night’s EuroMillions draw (Friday, 29th August). The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased on Monday, 25th August at Tesco, Ardkeen Village, Waterford, Co. Waterford.
The winning numbers in last night’s (Friday, 29th August) EuroMillions draw were: 6, 9, 10, 13, 37 and the Lucky Stars were 1 and 7.
Meanwhile, Saturday night’s Lotto Jackpot (30th August) is an estimated €2 Million! Players dreaming of becoming Ireland’s newest Lotto winner are reminded that tickets for tonight's draw can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or at http://www.lottery.ie ahead of the 7.45pm cut off.
