Wednesday’s Jackpot is rolling to €17 million (est)!

Lotto player in rural Kerry village just one number shy of winning third highest jackpot of all time!

A Lotto player in the picturesque village of Beaufort in Co. Kerry came within just one number of last night’s mega €16,419,005 jackpot. The lucky Kerry player matched five numbers and the bonus to win a massive €257,723 in the Saturday night draw.

The winning Normal Play ticket was purchased on the day of the draw at Carson’s Daybreak store in Beaufort village at the foot of Carrantuohill mountain in Co. Kerry.

Owner of the winning store, Melvin Carson who is a 5th generation storekeeper in Beaufort village was thrilled to hear that one of his customers had scooped the Lotto prize of €257,723: “My phone rang late on Saturday night and when I saw it was from the National Lottery, my heart nearly stopped because I knew I must have sold a big winner. What a story that would have been, to have a €16 million euro winner in such a small Kerry village,” he laughed.

“It’s not the jackpot prize but it’s still a brilliant prize for one of my customers to win. We are a very small, close knit community down here in Beaufort and I can guarantee that whoever it is, it will be such a well deserving prize. We are a small local convenience store and post office with five employees so it’s a tremendous feeling here knowing that one of our customers is over a quarter of a million euro richer this morning. I know the entire village will be buzzing at this news so we wish them every bit of success with their win,” he said.

The winning numbers for last night’s (8th September) draw were: 09, 14, 22, 24, 37, 44 and the bonus was 45.

The winning ticket holder is advised to sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place. They should contact the prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to claim their prize.

As there was no winner of the €16,419,005 jackpot on offer in last night’s draw, Wednesday’s jackpot is now estimated to roll to €17 million, the second highest jackpot ever to be on offer in the history of the game in Ireland.  While there was no winner of last night’s astonishing €16.4 million jackpot, there were over 160,000 players all over Ireland who won prizes across the Lotto and Lotto Plus games.

The current Lotto jackpot has been on an unprecedented roll without a winner since June and is now edging very close to reaching the current jackpot cap. The Lotto jackpot is currently capped at €18.96 million and this represents the record breaking Lotto jackpot win by the Dan Morrissey syndicate in Carlow in June 2008. Once the jackpot exceeds the cap, no more money will be added to the jackpot prize until it is won. The funds that would normally go to the jackpot will be distributed to the next lower prize tier at which there are winners. If the jackpot is won at an amount higher than €18.96 million, that amount will become the game’s new jackpot cap.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage, and the Irish Language. In total more than €6 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 34 years ago. In 2020 alone, €254 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
