Supporting the Slieveardagh Rural Development Centre
A broad range of services at the Slieveardagh Rural Development Centre are part-funded by the National Lottery Good Causes fund.
The centre promotes social and heritage initiatives and projects in the Slieveardagh region of Co Tipperary. It strives to advance the history, local antiquities, places, tourism, people and local businesses of the communities of Gortnahoe-Glengoole, Killenaule-Moyglass, and Ballingarry.
The development centre also acts as a secretarial and publishing service for local people, with an internet café on site. It provides room rental to community groups, IT training and a hot desking service for local individuals or businesses.
Some of the projects National Lottery funding has contributed to include:
- - Running of the 1848 Ballingarry Rising week-long festival
- - Development of a man-made lake, Lough Doire Bhile, in Glengoole
- - Refurbishment of the Old School House at the Commons, Co. Tipperary
- - Development of Ballynonty Memorial Garden, Ballynonty, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
- - Mapping and Recording of Graveyards in Slieveardagh Area.
The centre was opened in August 1995 by then President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, and is a pillar in these communities.
