Supporting the Asthma Society
National Lottery funding helps support the lives of people with asthma through the Asthma Society of Ireland.
Ireland has one of the highest rates of asthma in the world. It claims on average one life per week in this country – and 90% of these deaths are preventable.
The Asthma Society of Ireland strives to improve the lives of asthma sufferers with a vision of everyone with asthma living a full and symptom-free life. It offers a wide range of programmes and supports to assist individuals who have asthma, while also increasing the general awareness of the disease in Ireland.
Averil Power, CEO of the Asthma Society said:
“Asthma is the most common chronic disease in the country and unfortunately there is no cure available. However, with proper management people with the condition can go about their daily life unhampered. The funding we receive from the National Lottery Good Causes fund, through the HSE and Department of Health, allow us to help improve the lives of all those affected by asthma by providing patient education resources and patient support services throughout the country.”
The Asthma Society provides a free asthma advice line service where people can avail of a one to one appointment with an asthma nurse specialist to help them manage their condition - 1800 44 54 64
The Society is also very active in developing asthma campaigns and advocacy on behalf of their patients. To learn more about the services and advocacy activities of the Asthma Society of Ireland, visit www.asthma.ie.
