Minister Heather Humphreys meets two Monaghan groups named as National Finalists in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2024

Earlier this month, the National Lottery unveiled the 35 National Finalists from all over Ireland who will go on to compete in the grand final of this year’s National Lottery Good Causes Awards. Two local organisations from Co. Monaghan were named amongst the worthy finalists to proceed to the gala event in October.

Castleblaney Trust for Homeless, Needy and Unemployed were nominated in the Community category, and are a charity who have been providing temporary emergency and social housing to the most marginalised in their community since 1987.

The Down Syndrome Centre North East, were nominated in the Health & Wellbeing category, and provide free and heavily subsidised therapies, activities, support services, education, information, and advice for young people with Down Syndrome and their families in the North East region.

Each of the 35 National Finalists will now receive €1,000 and today the two Monaghan organisations were presented with their cheques by Minister for Social Protection and Rural & Community Development Heather Humphreys TD.

Minister Humphreys spoke of her admiration for the two groups who provide essential services within their communities.

“I am honoured to play a part in such an occasion and for the opportunity to meet Marie and Noelene from Castleblayney Trust for the Homeless and Sinead from the Down Syndrome Centre North East. I know that both groups work tirelessly for the good of others and to see their efforts recognised in the Good Causes Awards is truly heartening. The event is a wonderful way to highlight the work being carried out, not just in my own local area, but all over the country by the thousands of groups who have received funding from Good Causes.”

“I wish both organisations all the very best of luck in October and I will of course be cheering them on from afar later in the year.”
