Festival in a Van, Dublin
Arts & Culture Winner

Festival in a Van were selected as the Arts & Culture winner for its inspiring work in making live performance accessible to communities across Ireland. By bringing theatre, music, and storytelling directly to people’s doorsteps, this mobile arts initiative breaks down barriers and fosters a sense of joy, connection, and belonging to communities who don’t traditionally have ready access to cultural experiences.
Founded in 2020, Festival in a Van began as a response to the isolation of the pandemic, providing employment to artists and bringing performances to care homes, housing estates, and rural communities. Today, it continues to champion radical inclusion by staging high-quality performances in familiar, accessible spaces, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, can experience the magic of the arts.
With part-funding from the National Lottery, Festival in a Van has expanded its reach and deepened its impact. From dementia-friendly music sessions to youth-led opera projects and cross-border storytelling adventures, the organisation’s workshops and performances empower audiences to participate, create, and connect. Their work with young people, those living with mental health challenges, and individuals affected by social isolation is particularly powerful, offering transformative experiences through creativity.
Festival in a Van’s ethos is rooted in meeting people where they are, physically, emotionally, and culturally. By pairing emerging and established artists, and tailoring each performance to its audience, the organisation creates inclusive, people-centred experiences that celebrate diversity and spark imagination.
The National Lottery Good Causes Awards is proud to honour Festival in a Van for its extraordinary commitment to inclusion, creativity, and community.
