Meath Women's Refuge and Support Services are a non-profit organisation which assists women affected by domestic violence and abuse across Co. Meath and the northeast region.

Each year they work directly with over 600 users and receive over 2,000 calls to their helpline, which operates 24 hours a day, all–year round. They provide support services such as crisis refuge accommodation, holistic treatments, counselling services as well as advocacy and leadership to influence positive change in society.

Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services received National Lottery funding through the HSE in 2022 to fund a programme of holistic treatments and resources for women recovering from domestic violence. This included acupuncture, sound baths, weighted blankets to reduce anxiety and a new library of 154 books related to recovery and wellbeing.

The National Lottery Good Causes Awards are all about honouring and recognising the inspiring work and achievements of people and communities who effect positive change around them. We are proud to work with such inspirational organisations including Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services.

Marty Whelan, Chair of this year's Judging Panel, explained why Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services secured the coveted title;
“Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services has proven to be a beacon of hope, offering solace and strength to those who need it most. My fellow judges and I got a true sense of the deep and long-lasting impact felt by the users of this vital service and how important a role it plays in society today. Their unwavering commitment to protecting and empowering women has earned them the well-deserved title of National Lottery Good Cause of the Year 2023,” he said.
