Age Action is the leading advocacy organisation for all people as they age in Ireland. The organisation was set up 1999. Their mission is ‘To achieve fundamental change in the lives of all older people by empowering them to live full lives as actively engaged citizens and to secure their rights to comprehensive high-quality services according to their changing needs’. This statement reflects Age Action Ireland’s commitment to ensuring that their work is aimed at mobilising and supporting older people.
The services that Age Action Ireland provide improves older people’s quality of life in Ireland. These services include care and repair programmes, computer training, lifelong learning, and information services. AAI also raise awareness of elderly abuse and act as a voice for older people to ensure their rights are always on the Governments agenda. They also empower the older people of Ireland to advocate on behalf of themselves, their families, and their communities as a key element of their work.
Funding from our players allowed Age Action Ireland to train almost 3,000 older people in their Getting Started digital literacy programme to keep them connected with their loved ones. AAI completed over 7,800 repair jobs to allow older people to remain at home in comfort; and serve 20,000 people in maintaining their social connections through their University of the Third Age groups and Ageing and Development exhibitions, talks, and workshops.
The funding also allowed Age Action Ireland to create virtual versions of their programmes during the pandemic, for example their remote Getting Started (KIT) digital literacy tutoring, ensuring that people could connect to their loved ones while socially isolating. They also expanded programmes to address COVID- 19 related hardships, like adding a hospital discharge service to their Care & Repair programme, while preparing houses with safety equipment for those returning from hospital stays. Staying connected to your loved ones is so important, and Age Action have made this easier for so many. We're so proud to support them.
