On Saturday 19 March 2011, the National Lottery Skyfest, in partnership with St. Patrick’s Festival, will light up the skies in Wexford town for what promises to be the most spectacular Skyfest the country has ever seen.

Internationally renowned and award-winning fireworks company, Pains Fireworks, will use 1.6 tonnes of fireworks, 5 tonnes of firing equipment and 6,000 pyrotechnic effects to create an amazing show, including the largest pyrotechnic waterfall ever fired in Ireland running at 300 meters wide across the River Slaney.

To add to the festivities, the National Lottery Lotto draw for Saturday 19 March 2011 will take place on the quayside in Wexford following the fireworks display and will be broadcast live on RTÉ ONE, presented by Nuala Carey.

"We in the National Lottery are very excited about this year’s Skyfest spectacular, as it promises to be bigger and more magical than any year before. We are delighted to be in Wexford for this colourful celebration and hope that everyone in Wexford and all over the South East, will join us for this electrifying display. We are delighted to announce the fireworks extravaganza will also be broadcast live by RTÉ to viewers all over the country. More magic could happen for someone on the night in our Lotto draw which takes place live on the Wexford quays after our fireworks display," said Dermot Griffin, National Lottery Chief Executive.

St. Patrick’s Festival CEO Susan Kirby says the organisers are delighted to continue bringing the festival beyond Dublin to showcase other parts of the country, “We are very excited to announce Wexford as the location of the National Lottery Skyfest 2011 and are looking forward to welcoming locals and tourists alike to join us for what promises to be a spectacular evening.” This is the fourth time the fireworks display will take place outside Dublin.

Last year, the National Lottery sponsored the Skyfest spectacular in Limerick City while in 2009 Skyfest took place in Waterford City. The Rock of Cashel, Co. Tipperary hosted the first ever National Lottery sponsored Skyfest show outside Dublin in 2008. Festivities kick off at 6:30pm.

Skyfest will be broadcast live from 7:30pm on RTÉ ONE followed by the Lotto draw live from Wexford at circa 8pm. Spectators are advised to prepare for the weather. This is an outdoor show so warm clothes are advised. Weatherproof clothing is also strongly advised in the event of wet weather.

Since the National Lottery was launched, over €3.6 billion has been raised for good causes. This level of funding has made a significant difference to communities, projects and individuals in the areas of Youth, Sports, Recreation & Amenities; Health & Welfare; Arts, Culture & National Heritage and the Irish Language.
