Dolores scoops Europe’s Big One.
€115 million. A EuroMillions jackpot record.
A €2 EuroMillions Quick Pick. Five random numbers between 1 and 50, and two lucky star numbers between 1 and 9. Not an awful lot of detail to spin a fairytale out of really. And the chances are Dolores McNamara was probably thinking more about the tea when she called into the Garryowen Stores in Limerick for her Quick Pick numbers in July, 2005. The same thing was happening hundreds of thousands of times all around France and Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal, Austria and the UK. But that’s the thing about fairytales. They don’t need much magic dust to make a massive difference. And the difference here – as we all know now - was that Dolores’s €2 Quick Pick was going to be the Big One, the one that netted her an unbelievable €115,436,126. It’d be a EuroMillions record for almost four more years, until May 2009, when a 25-year-old woman from Majorca, Spain, would win an even bigger jackpot of more than €126 million. Wonder whose ticket will be next to get the magic fairytale treatment?
